Do you have any questions?

What information would help you?

I think that it is very important that anybody who is considering working with me is well informed before making a committment to starting. I am always happy to make myself available to speak to you on the phone or online, just to say hello and answer any questions you may have. This also provides both of us with an opportunity to assess whether we are a 'good fit' and will feel comfortable working one to one. Let's face it we can't click with everyone, so why not take the opportunity to have an informal chat first.

There are a lot of questions that crop up regularly and on this page I have done my best to provide a little information that may help you as you decide your next move towards creating some positive changes in yourself.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have.

I look forward to hearing from you!

The Practical stuff

How much does it cost?

The cost per session is £75

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone responds differently so the number of sessions varies.

It depends on the individual, the issue, responsiveness to hypnosis, motivation and expectations. Positive expectancy can be a key factor and on some occasions change can be achieved in a single session, though this is the exception rahter than the rule. More often a few sessions are required. Typically this is somewhere between 2-6 sessions but there are no absolute rules. Life happens and I have some clients who have had a series of sessions then return later for another series either for a new issue, or because they want to benefit from a 'tune up'

Is there a discount for more sessions?

If you are committed to 3 or more sessions, these can be booked and paid for as a block of 3 for £210

Do I have to book ahead and commit to a set number of sessions?

Whilst a few sessions are most likley going to be most beneficial, there is no need to commit in advance. So if you wanted to try just one session to see how you get on then that is fine. Subsequent sessions can also be booked on a pay as you go, session by session basis, so there is no need to make a big committment

How do I pay?

Once a date for the first session has been agreed I will pencil it in my diary and this will be firmed up once payment has been received. Payment for the first session to be made at least 48 hours prior to the session please. Payment can be made by bank transfer or PayPal. For subsequent sessions. payment is requested ahead of the session

What if I need to cancel?

If you are truly committed to creating the changes in your life then I would hope that cancellation would only be in exceptional circumstances. That said, I do recognise that life happens and my cancellation policy reflects this.

If due to unforeseen circumstances any individual needs to cancel an appointment up to 3 days before a session, a full refund may be made.

For any cancellations made within 2-3 days of a session, a 50% refund may be made.

For any cancellation made within 24 hours of a session, no refunds are offered.

If the cancellation is made due to exceptional circumstances (debilitating health issues, loss of family member), this would be viewed sympathetically and a larger refund may be considered.

How long a gap between sessions?

Typically sessions are planned about a week apart, but this can be quite flexible to suit mutual availability. Typically I would not suggest another session any less than a week apart as it is good to allow your mind the opportunity to process what we have done in the session.

Sometimes it is good to leave a little longer gap between sessions especially once momentum has been built after the first few sessions

Do I need to do anything prior to the first session?

I will send you a link to a brief online questionnaire to complete once we have set the date for the first session. This is to provide  me with some basic information about you including, your general well being, details of any medication you may be taking, and a brief summary of what you hope to acheive from out work together.

This information will help me to ensure that your wellbeing is always the highest prioroity and also provides me with some ideas ahead of the session of what would be the  most efective approach.

I am interested in hypnotherapy - can I speak to you first as I need to be sure it is right for me?

It is important that you are comfortable about everything before you commit to booking and I am very happy to have a chat to say hello and answer any questions you may have.

This is not a pushy sales call, just a brief (15-20 minute) no-obligation informal chat on the phone or online using Zoom. Please use the contact button to request this.

Where are the sessions?

The sessions can either be conducted from the comfort of your own home using the online video conference platform Zoom or in person in Woodham KT15 3PP.

This is easily accessed by car. There is free parking available on the property.

There is also a bus stop nearby.

The nearest train station is West Byfleet which is about a 12 minute walk.

Is it on the ground floor? Are there toilet facilities?

The sessions in Woodham are in a bungalow, so yes, it is ground floor with bathroom facilities

How long are the sessions?

The session length varies, typically between 60 - 90 minutes.

Often the first session will be the longest becasuse there are a number of introductory steps to go through.

I will always check before the session starts if you need to finish by a certain time as I like to allow plenty of time to work thoroughly and to ensure that you feel unhurried.

Does it really work online?

Many professional hypnotherapists were working online even before the lockdown in 2020, and of course since then many more are doing so. It is a really efficient way of working together as there is no travelling or traffic issues, so it saves time, energy and stress.

The hypnosis is something that you create in your mind by closing your eyes and following some instructions and suggestions. Once your eyes are closed it doesn't matter where you are physically, it's all about where you are focusing your mental attention. It's an inside job!

So long as you can sit comfortably, where you won't be disturbed and have a good internet connection, then this can work just as well online as in person.

What if we lose connection during an online session?

That;s a great question and in my experience it rarely ever happens, but of course it can. It is something that we discuss before we start.

The first thing to understand is that you can't get stuck in hypnosis. It is just a state where your are focusing your attention in a particular way. If the connection was lost, after about a minute you would realise that you had not heard me speak for a little while. You would then simply open your eyes and reconnect to the Zoom meeting by clicking the same Zoom link. Once reconnected, we can resume the session without a hitch

About the treatment

What is hypnosis?

During the first session there will be a discussion about hypnosis to ensure that you are well informed and comfortable before moving ahead.

Hypnosis is a naturally occuring state of focused attention.  You will be invited to close your eyes and that immediately excludes any visual distractions and this can help you narrow your focus onto what's going on inside your mind and body.

Whilst in hypnosis we are working to create a mindset where your inner focus becomes more signifcant, more real to you than external reality. With that level of focused attention you develop a special kind of cognitive flexibility - an ability to experience your life and situation from a different perspective, This can have a powerful and positive effect on the way that you think and respond .

You could think of hypnosis as being like watching a good movie. You become absorbed in what is infolding on the screen. You may feel scared, tense or sad depending on how the storyline is developing for the film's hero. For a while you are focused intently on this expereince and it becomes your reality for a time. Yet all the time you are sitting in the comfort of your cinema seat or favourite chair at home. It's all about where your direct your attention.

Your brain can struggle to distinguish between outer reality and imagined reality and so by using hypnosis to create a positive version of your reality we can help the brain to adopt the desired positive version of yourself.

What if I can't be hypnotised?

It is thought that only a very small percentage of people will struggle to focus and go into hypnosis. An equally small number of people will be hypnotic virtuosos (like those that you might see eating raw onions at one of those hypnosis stage shows).

The majority of people are absolutely fine with it and studies suggest that it is someting that you improve at with a little practice. If you are able to direct your thoughts and imagine things then you will be fine.

Will I remember what happened whilst in hypnosis afterwards?

Mostly you will remember what happens, but not always.

Hypnosis is not sleep - you will hear everything that I say, but you will likely only remember as much as you would from any normal conversation. This is because there will be times when you are listening intently to what I am saying, As the session progresses, you may find that your mind becomes absorbed in imagined experiences and you may have a sense of drifting a little.

People often report that it felt iike they were in hypnosis for just 10-15 minutes when in fact it was 50 minutes

What happens in a session?

In the first session we will have a thorough discussion about the issue and what you would like to achieve. It is important to spend time in conversation so that you have the opportunity to express yourself and be heard. This allows me to build my understanding of what you are wanting to achieve and helps us to develop a mutual understanding and trust - this is a key element of successful therapeutic work.

We will discuss hypnosis, what it is and what it isn't and I will explain my approach and why I believe it will work for you. We will of course use hypnosis from the very first session. Subsequent sessions will always include a conversation initially to discuss progress and any challenges and this will help to shape the treatment plan.

Can hypnosis help with anxiety, stress, depression?

Hypnosis tends to have a very calming and relaxing quality to it and this can have huge benefits if you are suffering with anxiety and stress. When we are stressed or anxious, our sympathetic nervous system is cranked up and releases stress hormones, triggered by the 'fight flight' response. Hypnosis can be used to activate and enhance the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the 'rest and relax' response and this can be used deliberately to reduce the sensitivity to triggers.

With depression we would work on helping your mind to focus on more positive experiences to help lift mood. Hypnotherapy should be considered as complementary to any treatment you are receiving from the medical profession and not a replacement for it.

Will it work for me?

I believe great things are possible and have indeed witnessed many!

Most of the time we are stuck because we have learned behaviours or habitual responses that don't serve us. We may not have learned these deliberately or consciously, but in most cases the things that hold us back are not behaviours or responses that we were born with. If you can learn to be this way, then you can learn to respond in a better way.

Coming to a a session with a positive expection and a belief that things will change positively for you is a great starting point. We are working with the mind here and the messages and suggestions that we perpetually feed our minds will drive our habitual responses.

Come to the sessions with belief and expectation and lets see what we can achieve together. This is not something that I 'do to you' and you magically change, - this is a collaboration, you have to play your part too. If you, do great things are possible!

Is it like meditation?

Hypnosis is like meditation in many ways but not quite the same. Hypnosis is inherantly used to overcome a problem or achieve a specific goal or outcome.

Meditation is less goal directed but they both share the common theme of focusing on your inner thoughts and sensations, and relaxation is often a key quality

Is it safe?

All hypnosis is essentially self hypnosis. It is in essence simply a way of focusing your mind and thinking in a certain way. Thinking is not dangerous and nor is hypnosis. It is not a matter of hading over control of the mind, it is about taking back control of your mind and the way that you habitually think and respond. You can't get stuck in hypnosis. You will not be asked to do anything that you are not entirely comfortable with.

Think of it as being like a SatNav in a car. The SatNav suggests a route, but you don’t have to accept the suggested route and you remain in control at all times.

Hypnotherapy helped these people - it can help you!

Helen - weight loss

‘Tim has helped me regain my mojo for life’

Helen came to see me because she wanted to get fit and lose a little weight. In the first session we were able to identify some emotional obstacles that were keeping her stuck.

'Tim is amazing.

He has helped me overcome obstacles that I had put in my way to stop me achieving my goal of getting fitter.

He has helped me regain my mojo for life

I am only looking forward now'

Andrea - Spider phobia

'If you have a phobia, stress, addiction etc. Check Tim out. It works!'

Andrea responded remarkably well and was able to create a massive positive change in just one session.

'So last Wednesday I had a hypnosis session with Tim in the hope that I could cure my ridiculous phobia about spiders
Tonight I knew it had worked… as I saw a spider and after a nano second of fear, my brain changed the message. I relaxed, told myself it was as just a spider and left it. Usually I would have screamed, cried and refused to go in the room until it was disposed of. So… in a nutshell… if you have a phobia, stress, addiction etc. Check Tim out. It works!'
